The Newly Accomplished

There are some people who, when they achieve success and fame in one arena use that newly gained status to influence areas of political and social life. It is an arrogance, a certain narcissism that drives the newly accomplished. Similar to the newly acquired status of the merchant class or the nouveau riche, the newly accomplished insert themselves into political and social life with authority. Their opinions are forceful, even if they are not fully informed or educated in the issue. Suddenly, they are experts in economics, nuclear power, war, hunger, politics. They become activists. They become self annointed leaders. Hollywood celebrities, pop musicians, actors, authors have all tried to extend their sphere of influence into political and social arenas.I have yet to hear about any substantial policy change or life changing benefit any of these self-proclaimed activists and leaders have accomplished.
